Although significantly outnumbered, the Mifflin County Junior High cross country teams performed valiantly with some stand-out individual performances Wednesday in a four-team meet at Mechanicsburg.
In the girls’s race, Daliyah Bargas took first overall, with Lillen Adams fifth and Maddy Yoder tenth. Adalyn Lutz came in 19th, and Jakalya Colon 24th, placing all five Huskies’ girls in the top half of the 54 runner field.
Competing with only four runners, Levi Anderson led the boys, finishing second among 56 runners, with Kenneth Swartzell eighth. Adien Wible and Nolan Wade also posted strong efforts, navigating a very challenging part-trail, part-road course on a warm day.
In the team competition, the girls defeated Covenant Christian 12-24, but fell to Mechanicsburg 24-35 and Central Dauphin 26-32.
The boys also outran Covenant Christian 15-40, but came up short against Mechanicsburg 19-43 and Central Dauphin 25-36.
The junior high Huskies run on their home course next Wednesday, hosting Chambersburg and Central Dauphin East at the Indian Valley Elementary Center in Reedsville.
