Getting the new year started with a Bang!
Tuesday night the MIfflin County girls basketball team traveled to do battle with a 7-1 Lower Dauphin team in Mid-Penn Action.
It would be a low scoring contest from beginning to end.
After the dust settled and the final buzzer sounded, the Lady Huskies hand was lifted in victory, winning 36-35.
Mifflin County senior standout Marissa Gingrich finished with 18 points and five steals.
Helping to lead the team to the victory was Amelia Leister who posted a solid eight point and six rebound effort.
Aija Binder was tough on the boards bringing down eight rebounds.
“Tonight was a physical, low scoring game against the #2 5A team in District 3, and we’ll take that W on the road vs a 7-1 squad,” said MIfflin County coach Aaron Gingrich. “Our defensive effort was great tonight, however, we didn’t execute offensively in the second half”
The Huskies got off to a quick start, posting a 13-7 advantage after one.
Things continued to roll offensively in the second quarter for MIfflin County posting a 14-7 second stanza.
Lower Dauphin was able to get back into the contest outscoring MIfflin County 21-9 in the second half.
However, it wasn’t enough as the Lady Huskies escaped with the victory.
With the win, the Huskies improve to a 5-4 record. Ironically, they are on the same pace as last year’s District 6 champion crew from MIfflin County.
In the JV contest, the Lady Huskies won 28-16.
Leading the scoring Mackenzie Peachey and Maelyn Gingrich eight points.
