MILROY – Coming into the final day of Babe Ruth 15-16-year old Mid-Atlantic Regionals, the Mifflin County team came in sporting the number one seed.

With a win over Atlantic Shore, the “Blue-and-White” will punch a berth into the Mid-Atlantic Championship bid.

Mifflin County had already defeated Atlantic Shore on Friday, 6-0.

Sunday, Atlantic played the role of unfriendly guests as they topped MIfflin County 8-5 to end MC’s season in the semi-finals.

However, the MC crew went down fighting as they were two feet away from winning their game in the bottom of the seventh as Thad Gerwick sent a blast to deep, deep centerfield only to have the centerfielder make the catch just a foot from the fence, ending the contest.

Offensively, Mifflin County was led by Elliot Yetter and Carson Cherry who both finished with two hits apiece. Yetter finished with two RBIs while Cherry had one.

Atlantic Shore struck early and often in the first plating five runs.

Leadoff hitter, Jack Fellow singled to left field to start the game off.

Brayden Simon hustled out an infield single to join Fellows on base.

Both scored on a Kevin Reyes double down into left field, making it a 2-0 advantage.

Frank Holton singled in Reyes.

Fred Delaney kept the inning going with a walk.

Angelo Gonzalez rounded out the Atlantic Shore scoring ripping a 2RBI double.

Mifflin County cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning, playing a run.

Na Zae Traxler was hit by a pitch. He stole second and then scored on an RBI single by Cherry.

Atlantic added to its lead placing three more on scoreboard in the second. Highlighting the inning was a 3-run homerun by Reyes.

Trailing 8-1, MIfflin County added another run in the second.

Braxton Smith reached base on an error by Atlantic Shore.

Chase Leister singled, putting runners on first and second.

Wyatt Parkes advanced Smith up a base sending up a Sacrifice fly.

Kyle Shupp sent Smith home on a sacrifice fly, making it an 8-2 contest.

Both defenses took over in the contest as the two teams went into the bottom of the sixth with the score standing at 8-2.

The “Blue-and-White” chipped away as Thad Gerwick singled in Yetter, cutting it to a 8-3 contest.

Sending the game into the final inning.

Mifflin County rallied in their last at bats and almost was able to complete the comeback.

Yetter once again came up huge for MIfflin County blasting a 2-run single, plating Parkes and Shupp, cutting things to an 8-5 game.

MC loaded the bases as Gerwick stood up at the plate.

Gerwick’s blast traveled deep into centerfield, only to drop just a foot short of clearing the bases.

The crew from MC finished their season in the top four teams in the Mid-Atlantic.
