MILROY – Friday night, the MIfflin County 14-year old Babe Ruth squad went up against Westfield in their second game of the Mid-Atlantic Tournament Friday at Legendary Armagh Field.

West Field served as the home team in night two of Babe Ruth All stars action in the night cap game against Mifflin County.

Mifflin County has had strong pitching the whole tournament so far with Noah Bunch leading the way in game one this time it was River Knepp doing the pitching duties in a game where Knepp struck out seven batters in the teams’ 5-4 defeat.

Mifflin County failed to cash in,  leaving five runners on base in the first four innings. Mifflin County would turn to the bench. Reedsville standout Karter Kanagy would come threw off the bench delivering with a two-run single to put the visitors out front 2-0 in the sixth inning.

Mifflin County’s Caden McClure would come through to add insurance runs to make it a 4-0 lead.

“We left runners on base early and that played big late. You know we need to get some timely hitting when we get runners in scoring position early and we didn’t do that today,” said Mifflin County coach Denny Yetter.  “We have to get some key hits tomorrow in situations with runners on base. We didn’t have that today. Credit the other team we played scoring 26 runs in two games. River threw a good game too. “

When asked about the outstanding performances out of Chase Krepps and others during this tournament  he said Chase has done very well so have many others we just have to get outs when you need to we will have to continue that through the rest of the tournament.

“I just let them know to have fun,” Yetter added.  I mean they’re 14 year olds kids and I think we forget that whenever we as coaches and fans alike you know you know where we come out here and expect perfection but they are only 14.

Jude Sullivan was a key piece to starting the rally for West Field cracking the scoreboard for the first time. WestField would score five runs. The final run would be scored on an MIfflin County miscue. MIfflin County would get within striking distance. Cohen Leister would be thrown out on a close play at home plate what would’ve represented the tying run. Leister would also have the only triple in the game. West Field would get the outs they needed to to win the game.

Mifflin County will play in a double header tomorrow against Altoona and Roxborough.
