BELLEFONTE- Mifflin County pitcher Noah Wray had his array of off speed pitches and fastballs working well Sunday in their second round game of Babe Ruth 14U action.
Along with strong hitting as well, Mifflin County was able to top a well rested Altoona crew 9-4, putting them at 2-0 heading into day three.
Wray went 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. Teammate
Colton Aumiller came in later and finished off the game, preserving the win for the MC squad.
Aumiller also led things for the”Blue and White” posting two extra base hits, a double and a towering home run in the win. He also finished with two RBIs and a run scored.
Altoona was led by Coletta Lucas’ two hit game. He posted a three RBI triple and single.
Both teams finished with seven hits each.
Mifflin County was selected as the visitors and wasted little time on getting on the scoreboard, posting four in the second.
Jude Zook led off the inning, reaching via an Altoona miscue.
Noah Wolfkiel followed with a walk.
With one out, Lucas Shawver singled in Zook on the hit.
Cooper Walters layed down a picture perfect bunt advancing the runners to second and third.
Camden Kauffman walked to load the bases.
Shawver made 2-0, scoring on an Altoona wild pitch.
Aumiller blasted a double to up the score to 3-0.
Kauffman reached home via two more wild pitches, ending the inning with the lead to 4-0.
Altoona battled back to tie things in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Lucas’ three-run triple.
However, Mifflin County would not allow Altoona to make another comeback.
In the third, the Mifflin County bats went right back to work, taking back the lead in the contest.
Derek Wert led things off with a one-out walk. Teammate Zook followed with a walk of his own.
With two outs, Jett Powell loaded the bases with Altoona’s third walk of the inning.
Shawver followed with an RBI walk, upping the score to 7-6.
Cooper Walters smack an RBI single into right field, upping the MIfflin County lead to two.
From there, Wray and his defense took over the game, bending but not breaking and kept the Altoona bats relatively quiet.
Mifflin County added two more runs in the fourth inning.
Bo Benny got the rally started as he was hit by an Altoona offering.
Liam Shaffer followed with a single into centerfield.
Zook brought home Benny on a RBI single. Shaffer moved up to third on the play.
MIfflin County cruised along and added yet another insurance run.
Aumiller made it a 9-4 game, blasting a towering fly ball deep over the right field fence, ending the game scoring.
Mifflin County is the top seed going into tomorrow with a perfect 2-0 record.
