REEDSVILLE – Mifflin County renewed its rivalry in Little League All-Star softball action Monday.
With the real feel temperatures flirting with triple digits neither teams seemed effected as they battled at Reedsville for the right to remain undefeated.
It was a good pitching duel as State College hurler Sid Thomas matched up against Mifflin County ace Riley Pully.
Mifflin County had yet to be scored upon while State allowed only one in their two previous contests.
The night belonged to Pully and her defense as she struck out 15 and allowing only two hits in the “Purple and Black Attack’s” 7-1 victory.
Coming into the contest, the MC crew had not been hit against as Pully had tossed two consecutive. No-hitters.
State College was able to end the streak when Juliette Hartman finished with two hits in the contest.
But that would be all the spunky State College group would muster.
Mifflin County was the visitors in the contest.
Mifflin County opened the contest with two first inning runs.
Pully led off the game plastering a double into left field.
Lucy Breon put her team on the board with a RBI single.
With one out, Evelyn Renninger singled in Breon, making it an early 2-0 advantage.
Pully struck out 2-of-3 in the bottom of the first, putting the game at 2-0 going into the second.
Neither team were able to manufacture any runs.
But Harpster broke the hitless inning streak of Mifflin County as he hit the ball off of her handle and raced to an infield.
But she would be stranded as the MIfflin County defense took back control of the momentum.
In the third, MIfflin County added to their lead thanks to a major blast into left field by Alex Deamer. Deamer took her pitch and sailed it over the left fielders’ reach and into the fence on a roll. When Deamer stopped she was on third with a triple. She made it 3-1 when Pully singled her in.
An inning later, Mifflin County added some cushion to its lead on yet another big swing but a MC batter.
Renninger notched a triple of her own to lead off the fourth.
She scored on a RBI fielders choice, making it a 4-1 contest.
But the State College squad refused to go away without a fight as they battled back to score a run in the fourth.
Riley Garis reached first. She stole second. That would set the stage for Harpster. Harpster did not disappoint as she roped an RBI single, scoring Garis, cutting the game to a 4-1 deficit.
That would be all that the first crew would able to get across as the MIfflin County bats added three more in the sixth, taking the contest and staying unbeaten in the process.
