Macknair Takes 1500-meter run in Midweek Invitational

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men’s outdoor track & field team delivered a host of solid performances Wednesday on the home track at Seth Grove Stadium, winning nine events and achieving several season bests on a sunny and pleasant day at the Midweek Invitational.

The field athletes had a fine day, highlighted by several noteworthy throws and jumps. Pat Maloney (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) won the shot and the discus. He narrowly missed his new personal best in the shot by just two inches on another excellent put of 56 feet, 5 ¼ inches, threw the discus 163 feet, and took second in the hammer on a throw of 182 feet, 11 inches.

Josh Herbster (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) came within four inches of the meet record in the hammer throw with another 200-foot performance. His winning mark was 200 feet, 2 inches. Herbster achieved a new outdoor best in the shot put, placing fourth on a throw of 50 feet, 6 ¾ inches. Maloney, Herbster and Alex Kyle (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union Area) all met the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) automatic qualifying standards in each of their three throws.

The long jump was another major highlight, with Mo Whittle (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) leading the way with a stupendous new personal best of 24 feet, 2 ½ inches that resulted in second place and another provisional qualifier. Whittle now ranks third in the conference, while Teagan Weaver (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) moved to sixth in the conference after his third-place PR of 23 feet, 2 ¾ inches. Jacob Cramer (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area) finished fifth, improving his best to 22 feet, 3 inches.

SU finished 1-2-3-4 in the 100 meters with EJ Dorwil (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington) leading the way. Dorwil, in his fifth year at Shippensburg, delivered a new collegiate best Wednesday with his victory in 10.79 seconds. Eric Kirk (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) took second in 10.85 seconds, while Whittle ran third in 10.91 seconds and Weaver was fourth in 11.02 seconds. Dorwil moved up to eighth on the league leaderboard in the event.

Jeovaughni Daniel (Newtown Square, Pa./Episcopal Academy (Marymount)) and Ethan Conrad (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) ran new collegiate bests in the 110-meter hurdles. Daniel took second in 15.23 seconds, while Conrad ran 15.53 seconds. Robbie Hrabosky II (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward) won the 400-meter hurdles in 54.5 seconds, while Daniel finished second in 55.85 seconds and Edis Korkutovic (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) placed fourth.

In mid-distance and distance action, Matt Wehrle (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney (Edinboro)) dazzled in the 800 with a second-place time of 1:52.83 that has him second in the PSAC standings. Chase Hensinger (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) also improved his best to 1:54.96, while Aiden Gonder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land) picked up a PSAC qualifier in the 5K by running 15.16.26.

Kenny Rhyne (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) won the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 3 ½ inches, while Donovan Hart (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) finished second. Austin Long (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) won the javelin on a throw of 165 feet, 3 inches.

Chayce Macknair (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) won the 1,500 meters, running 4:06.62. Quinton Townsend (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra Area) ran second in the 400 with a collegiate best and league qualifier of 49.5 seconds.

Darien Ressler (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) was among the busiest of the Raiders on the day. In addition to pacing the team in the triple jump with a second-place mark of 44 feet, 2 inches, Ressler long jumped to a mark of 21 feet, 11 inches and completed the 100-meter dash in 11.61 seconds.

Shippensburg returns to action Saturday, April 29when it hosts the Paul Kaiser Classic.
