Liam Shaffer drove in five runs on two hits to lead Burnham past Lewistown Babe Ruth Baseball 2025 18-2 on Tuesday at 309 3rd Avenue. Shaffer hit a grand slam to left field in the third inning, scoring four runs, and singled in the second inning, scoring one.
Burnham won thanks in part to 10 runs in the third inning. Cohen Leister homered to right field, scoring three runs, Blaine Rhodes singled, scoring one run, Isiah Burch singled, scoring one run, Noah Wolfkiel drew a walk, scoring one run, and Shaffer hit a grand slam to left field.
Burnham jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Chase Benfer doubled, scoring two runs, and Cunningham induced Hunter Benfer to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
Burnham scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning. Shaffer singled, scoring one run, Benfer singled, scoring one run, Noah Wray singled, scoring one run, and Benfer doubled, scoring two runs.
Benfer earned the win for Burnham. The pitcher allowed one hit and two runs (zero earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out eight and walking four. Cunningham stepped on the bump first for Lewistown Babe Ruth Baseball 2025. The starter surrendered seven hits and eight runs (five earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking three.
Burnham amassed 13 hits in the game. Wolfkiel set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Burnham with three hits in three at bats. Wray and Benfer each collected multiple hits for Burnham.
Jared Sickels went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Lewistown Babe Ruth Baseball 2025 in hits. Talon Penepacker stole two bases.
Burnham will travel to Mcveytown for their next game on Thursday.
