HERSHEY – MIfflin County’s Adeline (Ade) Leason ran in the PIAA State Championship race on Saturday, November 5th for her second time. Her first experience was her freshman year running for Selinsgrove in the AA Girls Championship Race. Saturday was a nice way for her to close out her senior year and her high school cross country career. This time, representing Mifflin County, Ade ran in the AAA Girls Championship Race running 22:11 and placing 150 out of 233 runners.

Last year Ade did not run cross country so when she ran with us this year my goal from the beginning of the season was to get her back to states. She went right to work and progressed nicely throughout the season. I was so proud of her when she accomplished that goal at Districts and earned her second trip to states. It’s a major accomplishment for anyone to have the privilege of running with the fastest girls in the state. Do it twice, and it’s an even greater accomplishment.
The state course in Hershey has challenging hills and the weather was unseasonably warm. Despite all of that, she attacked the race and was cheered on by numerous of her teammates, family, and friends that made the trip to support her. My favorite moment was immediately after the race asking her how it was. Her response was priceless, “It was fun!” Now that is something you don’t hear too often after such a hard race! What an amazing attitude and great way to end the season.
