Late Sunday score- Derry Decatur tops Terrace 34-14

LEWISTOWN – In the opening game on Sunday, the Derry Decatur Midgets went up against a scrappy Terrace team in the Central Keystone Football and Cheer League contest.

The Cyclones defense was tough as it helped Derry a Decatur to the 34-14 victory.

Torque Hampton led his team on the ground, finishing with a 162-yard rushing performance.

On the Terrace side, the Tigers were led by Raul Rodriguez with a 143-yard rushing game.

In the first, the Cyclone’s defense picked up the first big play of the game when Gage Laub intercepted a Terrace throw, giving Derry Decatur the ball at the Tigers 48.

It took just six plays for the Cyclones to get on the board.

With the ball on the seven, Laub threw a TD pass to Rylie Moyer for six points. The Cyclones connected on the 2-point conversion to lead 8-0.

Derry Decatur went up 14-0 midway through the second quarter when Elijah Hower took it in from 14 yards out, making it a 14-0 contest.

The Cyclones added a late first half touchdown when Laub went to the air again, this time finding Lexi Trutt from six yards out. With another successful 2-pointer, Derry Decatur extended its lead to 22-0

The teams would go into the intermission with the Cyclones leading 22-0.

Coming out of the half, Terrace would battle back when Rodriguez would cap off a 4-play drive with a 3-yard run, cutting it to 22-8.

As the clock hit zero in the third quarter, the Tigers would score on the last play of the stanza cutting it to a 22-14 contest. Rodriguez scored once again, scoring from five years out.

But the Cyclones would score twice in the fourth to clinch the win.

First, Hampton got free from the line of scrimmage and blazed his way to a 73-yard touchdown run.

Rounding out the scoring was a 30-yard run from teammate Hower, ending the contest at 34-14.
