Late Comeback From Altoona Costs Mifflin County

Wednesday’s game against Altoona was a heartbreaker for Mifflin County, as they lost the lead late in a 3-1 defeat. The game was tied at one in the top of the fifth when Nick Kraft doubled, scoring two runs.

Both teams were strong on the mound. Altoona pitchers struck out five, while the Huskies sat down five.

A single by Aaron Smearman put Altoona on the board in the top of the first.

Jayden Smith singled down the left field line, which helped the Huskies tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.

Tanner Stroup earned the win for Altoona. The hurler surrendered one hit and one run over two innings, striking out two and walking two. Logan Alexander took the loss for Mifflin County. The starter went seven innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out five and walking none. Smearman earned the save.

Reese Christine and Evan Strohecker were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Mifflin County  while hitting back-to-back. Smith led the Huskies with one run batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-4 on the day.

Kraft provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Altoona with two runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Gavin Albright and Pike each collected two hits for Altoona. Altoona didn’t commit a single error in the field. Kraft had the most chances in the field with six.

Next up for Mifflin County  is a game at Greater Latrobe on Thursday.
