The Penns Valley girls softball team improved to 7-1 Friday topping Clearfield 4-1.

Penns Valley pitcher Taylor Bumgardner had a strong outing, allowing only one run on four hits, striking out 13.

“We had to really battle to win this one. Our ladies struggled at the plate but give Clearfield credit, their pitcher did a nice job mixing it up and keeping us off balance,” said Penns Balley coach Terry Bumgardner. “Taylor pitched well and kept us in it until we could put something together in the 6th. Maddi Bowen came up big with the pinch hit single to win it.”

Clearfield scored in the bottom of the first. They would keep the one-run advantage until Penns Valley into the bottom of the second.

From there both team’s defenses took over.

The game would remain tied at one until the bottom of the sixth when the Lady Rams would add three to its side of the scorebook.

They did it all with two outs as well Hadley Stover kept the inning alive with a walk.

Elle Dinges followed with a single into centerfield.

Pinch hitter Maddison Bowen came up with a single of her own, scoring Stover while Dinges moved to third.

Clara Brooks posted a double to score both Bowen and Dinges, making it a 4-1 victory.

With the win, Penns Valley improves to 7-1.
