SPRING MILLS – The Red Raiders girls soccer team spoiled Penns Valley’s final home game as they picked up another victory as the season winds down and the post season looms.

It was the second and final meeting of the two teams, early in the season winning 2-0.
“I thought they played a solid game tonight. We had really good passing  and possessions,” said Bellefonte coach Stacey Miller. “I thought our defense did well at stopping the counter attacks. They (Penns Valley) had some forwards that are pretty fast and I think our defense played really well.”

The Red Raiders got started early as they found an opening in the Rams defense and took advantage of it.
After a short run at the Bellefonte goal area Penns Valley was stymied by the Red Raiders defense early and often.
The Rams forward Elle Dinges was not able to break free of the Bellefonte backline, frustrating the Lady Rams all evening.

Trinity Jackson smoked a screamer past Penns Valley goalie Emma Marks.

The Lady responded to the goal and was able to push the ball into the Lady Raiders end.

However, the Lady Rams left empty handed as its backline and goalie Ronni Spotts were able to give the possession back to its offense.

After the Rams run, Bellefonte added its second goal of the game on shot by Brooke Whitman, making it a 2-0 contest with 29:45.

Both defenses settled in for the rest of the first half as neither team was able to notch another first half goal.

The Red Raiders tried numerous times as they blasted 11 shots in the opening stanza and five corner opportunities to go with it.

The Lady Rams would post four shots on goal in the period but was stymied by strong goalie play by Spotts.

In the second, the Lady Rams would up their intensity swarming to the ball.
Coming out of the break, Penns Valley went right to the heart of the Bellefonte defense. For the first five minutes of the second, the Rams were knocking on the door but the Lady Raiders would not let up.
But like in the first half, the Red Raiders defense was up for the test.

At 32:21 Whitman notched her second unassisted goal to extend the Lady Raiders lead to 3-0.

Despite the Rams aggressive attack on the Raiders’ backline, the Bellefonte defense was able to hold things tight, not allowing any strong looks at the Lady Raiders goal.

Bellefonte outshot Penns Valley 22-11 and led in corners by a 6-4 margin.
The goalie play on both sides were stellar in the goal area as the Lady Rams’ Marks finished with 12 saves and Spotts finished with six.

The Lady Raiders are back in action Thursday as the battle Bishop Guilfoyle.
