The Juniata girls basketball team opened its season against Mifflinburg Monday night at Juniata High School.
The Indians battled but fell in a close 52-42 contest.
Juniata was led by Ava Shearer who posted an 18-point performance.
Teammate Regan Lowrey followed with six points for the Indians.
The Indians led the contest after one, 6-4. Lowrey had two triples to pace Juniata in the period.
Mifflinburg exploded for 15 in the second, going into the intermission leading 19-13.
The visitors continued to keep their lead as the two headed into the final stanza, outscoring the Indians 10-8.
Both offense exploded in the fourth as Mifflinburg was able to hold on, outscoring Juniata 23-21.
