The Mifflin County Lady Huskies ran in the Paul Short Invitational on Friday afternoon, October 4 at Lehigh University. It was a great experience for the team to compete in a race with a lot of talent. They competed in the high school brown race which had 40 schools and 382 total runners.
Leading the team was Ava Kratzer who had her second PR in a week and broke through the 22 minute “barrier”. Ava looked strong today, particularly in the third mile. She was able to pass 16 girls after the 2 mile split. That takes a lot of grit and mental strength but she is determined and went for it. Taking that risk allowed her to finish at 97 for her race which is a great accomplishment in this kind of race.
Ava Wagner also accomplished another PR and finished second for the team. It is really exciting to see her have such a good senior year. She is also moving close to breaking 22. Although there are still several weeks left of the season, we will race less and prepare for the grand finale at Districts on October 26. The team’s next race will be at Mid Penns/Tim Cook on Saturday, October 12, at Big Springs.
