Highland Park- The battle of the unbeatens met Monday at Mifflin County high school. Both Mifflin County and State College tennis teams came into the week with 2-0 records.
It has always been quite the historic rivalry when Mifflin County and State College meet in any sports today it was at the tennis courts. State College was dominant from the getting strong strong efforts from all the girls in its 5-0 shutout win over its cross mountain rivals of Mifflin County.
Mifflin County’s Maddy Clinard and Ava Kelly who were coming off two stellar singles performances against Gettysburg and CD East couldn’t quite get the job done against a really good Little Lions’ team.
Joenna Liu impressed in her match against Clinard finding open spots where Purple and White were not to earn her points. Clinard could only pull through with one point in the losing effort.
State College Purvi Narayanan didn’t disappoint with a racket in her hand shutting out Kelly in her first set and taking the second set 6-1 despite the loss Kelly battled and didn’t give up.
“I think the team came into this match with good spirits. We know that State College is a tougher team to play historically, but I think if we focus on our technique and keeping our rallies strong and consistent,” Mifflin County coach Meredith Schwenk. “We will be much more successful versus Harrisburg Thursday.”
Mifflin County’s Marcella Mckee could only make it in one set as she left with an apparent injury. She would fall to Kazie Dingwell despite getting off to a slow start in set one Mckee led early with an 1-0 advantage.
State College topped Mifflin County in doubles competition. Catherine Nia and Jessica Lee had strong showings against Senior Emmah Miller and Delaynie Newlen.
The Lady Huskies could only push across one score that came in set two. Audrey Brush and Natalie Labosky had an superb outing against Mifflin County’s Alexis Allen and Gladrielle Leonard as they were kept off the board in their doubles match
State College would be just too much for Mifflin County as the Little Lions cruise to a 5-0 win over the Lady Huskies to remain unbeaten in the 2025 season. Mifflin County falls to 2-1 on the season.
