Lady Huskies shut out Patriots, Hershberger goes 3-for-4

LEWISTOWN – Back to business.

Monday the Mifflin County softball team got back to the diamond and came out the winner of a 9-0 victory over visiting Red Land.

Madison Wolfgang notched the victory for the Lady Huskies, improving their record to 10-5 on the season.

Wolfgang went the distance in the shut out win, allowing just four hits while striking out nine.

The Patriots had four errors and the Huskies made the most of them in their nine-run effort.

Leading the power from the plate was Dakota Hershberger who was a highlight reel in herself, posting a 3-for-4 effort with three RBIs and scoring two runs.

Alexis O’ Brien and MacKenna Yoder both tallied two RBIs as well.

The Huskies opened the scoring with a run in the first.

Arika Henry reached on an error. She later scored on a double by Hershberger.

Offensively, Mifflin County was back at it in the bottom of the third.

Riley Hine opened with a sizzling single to center. She then stole second and later scored on a Red Land error in the outfield hit by Henry.

Hershberger notched RBI number two of the young game singling home Henry. Hershberger put herself in scoring position stealing second.

Yoder punched in Hershberger, upping the “Purple and Black attack’s” score to 4-0.

Ending the inning’s scoring was a Wolfgang RBI single that brought in Sophie McCurdy.

Mifflin County added another four-run inning in the fourth for insurance purposes.

But the Huskies didn’t need it as they went onto the the 9-0 victory.
