UNIVERSITY PARK – Freshman Josiah Barner dropped some more time off his mile race running a time of 5:18.83 to place 28th with a new personal best time.
Freshman Carolyn Heidenreich ran her first 800 in a time of 2:42.18 to place 19th overall and win her heat. In his last high school indoor track meet, senior Wyatt Stroup ran tough at the front to break the 9:00 barrier in the 3k for the first time in his high school career. He ran a time of 8:59.43 to place 2nd overall and walk away with a personal best time.
Juniata distance coach Jeff Miller said “Josiah, Carolyn, and Wyatt all ran competitively to walk away with personal best times. Josiah gained some confidence in his running abilities in his first indoor track season that will carry over to outdoor track. I was impressed with Carolyn running so well in the 800 coming off of basketball. I have been saying for a while she was born to run. I was happy for Wyatt getting under 9:00 in the 3k. It wasn’t the 8:45 he was looking for, but it was still a successful indoor season for him. This winter has been tough for training with the weather. I’m not willing to risk injury by running him to hard in indoor track when outdoor track is more important or he might have been able to run the 8:45 time he was hoping for.”
