MIFFLINTOWN – A date with destiny!
The Juniata softball team is one win away from posting its first district championship in team history.
Thursday, the Lady Indians had both facets of their game going, topping Central Martinsburg 6-0 at Juniata High School. The win sets them in a winner take all championship game against Philipsburg-Osceola or Forest Hill.
Juniata’s fireballing phenom Liz Gaisior continues to dominates her opponents as she tossed a 1-hit shut out while posting 17 strike outs.
Regan Lowrey continues her torrid hitting smashing a 3-hit afternoon, scoring a run in the process.
Gaisior had things going offensively as she slapped two hits and two RBIs.
Teammate Alexea Frontz also posted two hits with an RBI and a run scored.
Juniata got the scoring started posting three in the first.
Lowrey started things with a single to centerfield.
Gaisior joined Lowrey on the base path reaching on a Dragon error.
Frontz singled home Lowery for the Indians first run.
With Gaisior on second, Sophia Smith reached on Central’s second miscue of the game allowing Gaisior to score and Frontz also, making it a 3-0.
That would all the Big Red defense would need as they cruised along through six before any more runs would score.
It would be the Lady Indians that would get back on the scoreboard as they added three more.
Gaisior ended the contest in true Gaisior fashion, striking out the side, clinching the championship berth and a Thursday championship contest at Saint Francis University.
