Juniata 48, James Buchanan 0
MIFFLINTOWN — Juniata was not going to allow James Buchanan to ruin its homecoming week as the Indians grounded the Rockets in a 48-0 shutout in a non-league football game Friday night over at Dietrick Field.
During the Indians’ second possession of the football, they started to march the ball down the field with Caleb Smith putting in the exclamation point with a four yard touchdown run to complete the nine play drive.
Juniata didn’t score again until the second quarter as this time it was Seth Laub who got the touchdown running for four yards.
The Indians scored two more times in the second period starting with an incredible deep missile from Aaron Kanagy that went 35 yards to freshman receiver Jasper Sheeps. But Kanagy was not done there as he fired another rocket down the field this time to Jordan Dickinson for another touchdown pass.
Then in the third quarter, Waylon Ehrenzeller continued right where he left off from the first half as on the first play for the Indians in the frame, Ehrenzeller busted loose and hustled his way for the 50 yard touchdown run. Ehrenzeller added on another touchdown run in the fourth quarter this time being from 22 yards.
For the game Ehrenzeller compiled over 50 percent of the rushing yards for Juniata with 182 yards rushing off of 11 carries to go along with his two touchdowns.
Not to be outdone, Kanagy completed five of his nine passes for 131 yards in the air with two touchdown passes. On the ground, Kanagy also had 42 yards off of two carries including a 39 yard touchdown run back in the third quarter.
The old saying was bend, but don’t break, well not only did the Juniata defense not break, it didn’t even bend as the Indians completely dominated the James Buchanan offense holding the Rockets for a total of 42 yards of offense for the whole game.
Juniata is now (4-2) and will look to keep the winning ways going next Friday as the Indians will travel to do battle with Boiling Springs.
