Juniata built a 13-run lead in the third inning and then held off Line Mountain’s charge for a 14-13 victory on Monday. Line Mountain closed the gap by scoring on a single, a single, a walk, an error, a single, a walk, an error, a single, a double, and a sacrifice fly.
The Indians collected 12 hits and Line Mountain had 11 in the high-scoring affair.
Juniata got on the board in the top of the first inning after Drew Geedey singled, scoring one run, Gage Harlon singled, scoring one run, Caleb Auker drew a walk, scoring one run, Garrett Imes doubled, scoring two runs, and Daylyn Kennedy tripled, scoring two runs.
Juniata added one run in the second after Imes singled down the left field line.
The Indians scored six runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. Harlon doubled, scoring three runs, Auker grounded out, scoring one run, Calvin Decker hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Imes singled, scoring one run.
Line Mountain scored eight runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning. Dunkelberger singled, scoring one run, Geyer singled, scoring one run, Dunn drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Troutman singled, scoring two runs, and Dunkelberger drew a walk, scoring one run.
Geedey earned the win for the Indians. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and eight runs (four earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out three and walking four. Troutman took the loss for Line Mountain. The pitcher went one inning, surrendering seven runs on five hits, striking out two and walking two. Harlon threw two and one-third innings of shutout ball for Juniata Varsity Indians in relief. The pitcher allowed zero hits, striking out six and walking four.
Juniata collected 12 hits in the game. Number eight hitter, Imes, showed the depth of Indians’s lineup, by leading them with three hits in four at bats. Harlon and Imes each drove in three runs for Juniata. Kennedy collected two hits for Indians in three at bats. The Indians had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game. Kennedy, Geedey, Cam Bargo, and Bryce Harlon led the team with two free passes each. Harlon and Kennedy each stole multiple bases for the Indians. Juniata stole 10 bases in the game. The Indians turned one double play in the game.
Line Mountain collected 11 hits in the game. Schreffler led the team with three runs batted in. Geyer went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Line Mountain in hits. Thomas and Troutman each collected multiple hits for Line Mountain. Dunkelberger paced Line Mountain with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up 11 walks for the game. Line Mountain turned one double play in the game.
The Juniata Indians play at home on Wednesday against Halifax in their next game.
