Juniata 4, Juniata Christian 2
MCALISTERVILLE — Juniata got behind the foot of Regan Lowrey for a 4-2 victory over Juniata Christian during a girls soccer game on Wednesday night.
For nearly 20 minutes, both the Indians and Lions were duking it out and no one managed to get the ball in the back of the net.
That was until Abigale Berrier found Regan Lowrey open and Lowrey proceeded to tap in the first goal of the game.
However, Juniata Christian responded seven minutes later in an unusual way. As freshman Lily Goodling launched a pass that bounced off the back of Brinley Seler and the ball was left in the open space. Annika Martin found it and sent a rocket to the back of the net to even the game at one apiece.
Then with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half, Lowrey made her presence felt again. This time with some help from Mylee Landis which gave Juniata a 2-1 lead heading into the break. In terms of shots on goal both teams were nearly even as Juniata had six shots while the Lions had four for the half.
The second half was a repeat of the first half as again for the first 20 minutes. But then a mishap occurred by the Juniata Christian defense and Lowrey took advantage and scored, extending the lead to 3-1.
But the Lions were not going away quietly as freshman Maddie Warner hustled her way downfield on the outside and fired a shot that looked like a cross pass, but the ball hit the post and then went right into the net cutting the lead to 3-2.
Then with just under two minutes to play, Lowrey added her fourth goal of the game which ended up being the final goal of the game.
The Lions were led by their keeper Abby Warner who collected eight saves and prevented a lot of other goals from scoring throughout the game and keeping the match close.
Juniata (6-6) travels to Halifax today. Juniata Christian will host Belleville Mennonite on Tuesday for its senior night.
