The battle for bragging rights of Juniata County was renewed Wednesday as the annual Juniata vs East Juniata boys soccer battle began.
In a tight battle, the Indians defeated the Tigers in a thrilling 2-1 contest.
The game would add another thrilling chapter of the rivalry.
In the first half, Juniata scored at 2:13 on a goal by Jackson Shellenberger as he was assisted by Ricky Guante.
Juniata scored once again at 1:13 – when Daniel Lopez scored on a Penalty Kick.
East Juniata scored their own goal early in the second half at 2:22.
The Indians held the edge in shots on goal 11-3 and in corners by a 9-0 margin.
Juniata keeper Nolan Imes had six saves while East Juniata tallied 13.
