MIFFLINTOWN — Mifflinburg got hot shooting the ball in the second half which led to a 52-40 victory over Juniata in boys basketball action on Thursday.

The Indians came into the game with a size disadvantage against Mifflinburg. But someone forgot to tell them that because in the opening quarter, Juniata attacked the boards and forced Mifflinburg into committing turnovers.

Defensively, Juniata held the Wildcats to just two points for the frame which was scored by Ethan Bomgardner.

But from the second quarter on, the Mifflinburg offense came alive and started dropping shots all over the court.

In fact, the Wildcats had outscored Juniata 50-31 in the final three quarters in the game.

Most of the damage came especially in the second half when Mifflinburg started to drop shots from beyond the arc.

The Wildcats had made six shots from deep, five of those shots came during the second half.

Leading the charge was Cheeky Griffith who scored 17 points. Griffith had nailed four shots from beyond the arc.

But Juniata wasn’t going to go down without a fight as the Indians also had a stronger second half as well scoring 24 points in the second while scoring 16 in the first half.

Leading the efforts was Caleb Smith who may have only scored three points for the evening, but was diving after loose balls and kept pressure on Mifflinburg players from one end of the court to the other.

Offensively, the Indians were led by both Jasper Shepps and Grant Reinhold who each scored 12 points for the night.

Juniata (6-6) travels to face Halifax today.
