The Juniata boys cross country team ran as a team to beat Newport 15 to 45 at Little Buffalo State Park on Wednesday, September 28.  Juniata’s Wesley Ehrisman, Levi Zeiders, Logan Strawser, Wyatt Stroup, and Joey Bomberger controlled the front of the race shortly after the start to take the top 5 positions with in a second of each other.  The win was awarded to Wesley Ehrisman in a time of 19:28.  Charlie Telfer placed 10th with a time of 22:59 for the Indians.  St. Joseph’s Academy, Greenwood, Upper Dauphin also competed, but didn’t score as a team.  Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “It was nice to have a chance for our top 5 runners to run as a group today.  We have the prestigious Paul Short Invitational on Friday so I didn’t want the boys to run to hard today or roll any ankles.”
In the girls race, sophomore Jessie Bomberger led the Indians with a 7th place finish with a time of 24:41.  Nia Matthews ran to a 14th place finish with a time of 27:33.  Aspen Eby placed 19th with a time of 29:00.  The Juniata Indians only had 3 girl runners to compete so they couldn’t compete in the team competition.  Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “Jessie could have run a little harder today, but I told her to save it for our big race on Friday. That was hard for her.”
In the junior high race, Sylvia Brubaker took top honors winning the 1.89 mile race with a time of 12:56.  Other Indians competing in the girls junior high race were Drue Hoffman 2nd place with a time of 15:28, Calla Mianulli 4th place with a time of 17:10, Sylvi Gaisior 6st place with a time of 21:41.  On the boys side, Alex Armstrong led the Juniata boys with his 1st place finish in a time of 12:57.  Alejandro Guante was the other boy running a time of 22:45 for 2nd place.
Juniata travels to Lehigh University on Friday, September 30 for the Paul Short Invitational.
