LEWISTOWN – It was a down pour of rain Thursday at the Minor League field. It wasn’t storms that Mother Nature has provided as of late but it was raining runs as the Mifflin County 9-year old and Juniata All-Stars went head-to-head with a District Championship at stake.
In the best out of three series, the Mifflin County team exploded to take game number one, taking a 22-3 victory to take game one.
Mifflin County pounded out 15 hits en route to the victory. The Purple and White had 10 players pick up a hit on the night.
Leading the way in the victory was Cooper Keefer. Keefer finished his game with three hits in four at bats, he also scored three times while pounding out 2RBIs.
Also picking up multiple hits in the contest for Mifflin County were Jaxson Wildon (2-for-2, 3Runs and RBI), Harvey Mattern ( 2-for-2 2runs, 2RBIs) and Knox Wagner (2-for-3 3Runs, RBI).
Picking up the win was Keiser Norton went three and was replaced by on the mound by Gunner Reed.
Mifflin County exploded in the first, taking an 8-0 contest into the second.
Things continued to roll for Mifflin County as they added to their lead to lead posting five, making it a 11-0 lead after two.
Defensively, Mifflin County held Juniata to only four hits.
Both teams posted a lone run in the third.
However, the Mifflin County bats would not settle down, posting eight more runs, making it a 22-3 contest.
Mifflin County 9U All Stars got on the board in the top of the first inning after Norton doubled, scoring two runs, Mattern singled, scoring one run, Levi Hartsock doubled, scoring one run, Reed singled , scoring two runs, Colt Atherton singled, scoring one run, and a steal of home scored one run.
Mifflin County 9U All Stars scored five runs on three hits in the top of the second inning.
Mifflin County 9U All Stars added one run in the third. Keiser grounded out, making the score 14-0.
The Mifflin County 9U All Stars scored eight runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning.
With Norton earning the win for Mifflin County 9U All Stars, the starting pitcher gave up one hit and one run with no runs scored over three innings, striking out two and walking three.
Game 2: Juniata 10, Mifflin County 5
LEWISTOWN – In game 2, Juniata bounced back to send the series to a game three winning 10-5.
Slow and steady won the second contest as they limited MIfflin County’s hits to only four.
Juniata posted three in the first, three in the the third and finally four in the fourth.
Mifflin County’s big inning came in the third posting a 5-run time frame.
With the Juniata win, the two teams will face each other again in a winner-take-all contest back at Rec Park on Friday.
