Juniata and Bald Eagle splits with wins

WINGATE – Despite numerous downpours and passing thunder and lightning storms, the Bald Eagle Area track and field team finally went up against Juniata in a match up that was previously slated back in April.

The event, despite a delay, went on and it would be a fun non-conference contest.

“It was a late start. We were about two hours late. The weather finally cleared up,” said Juniata coach Maisie Hershberger. “This is one of our favorite meets. We love coming here. They have a fast track. Some of our kids ran PRs in every one of our events today. This always a fun day for us since they are not in our league. This give our kids a chance to some events they usually don’t get a chance to.”

A day after winning the TVL, the boys team came out victorious topping the Eagles in a close 58.5 -49.5 contest.

Colton Hutchinson took first place in the 110-meter hurdles posting a time of 18.60.

Jasper Shepps took first in the 100-meter dash posting a winning time of 11.10 tied with teammate Conner Boreman. Shepps also took topped honors in the 400-meter run with a winning time of 52.90.

Boreman had a top finish in the 300-meter hurdles. His time of 43.20 was good for the win. Teammate Colton Hutchinson placed third with a final time of 50.80.

In the 1600-meter run, Juniata placed a solid second and third place finish. Placing second was Joel Hardin with a time of 5:17.00. Rounding out the top three was teammate Joseph Bomberger who posted a 5:38.

Josiah Barner led the Indians to victory in the 800-meter run posting a time of 2:11.80.

The wins kept coming in the 200-meter dash as Franco Doydora took the win with a top time of 25.10. Ricardo Guante finished tied for second posting a 25.20.

Mason Beward took the top spot in the 3200-meter run posting a dominating 10:35.90.

Caden Swailes took second in the high jump posting jump of 5’6”.

Anthony Maradiaga won the pole vault with a mark of12’0”.

Boreman and Cade Wagner finished first and third in the long jump with distances of 19’2” and 17’9”, respectively.

Juniata swept the triple jump. Leading the way was Authur Hazard who finished with a winning leap of 39’0. Doydora was next leaping for a distance of 37’8” while Kade Wagner was third with a jump of 35’5”.

Javier Lopez placed third in the shotput posting a throw of 41’1”.

In girls action, Bad Eagle topped the Lady Indians 78.5-34.5.

Starting off the afternoon for the girls was the 100-meter hurdles. The Indians got a third place finish by Virginia D’Emilio with a time of 19.10.

Teammate Kailey Smith placed second in the 100-meters posting a time of 13.90 while teammate Londyn Bowsman placed third with a 14.0.

Juniata took the 4×100-meter relay with a top time of 56.20.

Sylvia Brubaker continues to shine for the Lady Indians as she took first in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.30. Brubaker also took topped the chart in the 3200-meter run with an impressive time of 13:00.10.

Juniata took second and third place in the 300-meter hurdles. Emerson Freed and Sara Montoya finished with times of 54.60 and 56.70, respectively.

Placing second in the 200-meter dash was Juniata runner Aubryn Deilh posting a time of 30.10.

In the field events, placing in the long jump for Juniata was Olivia Mummah who took second with a leap of 13’0”.

Mummah and Burd took second and third in the triple with jumps of 27’10” and 26’11”, respectively.

Sara Fisher rounded out the place winners for Juniata. Fisher placed third with a throw of 27’5” in the shotput.

Next up for the Indians is their District 6 meet at Altoona.
