LEWISTOWN – In the first contest in Cal Ripken District All-Star action, the Juniata Youth baseball squad scored early and often as they took the first game against Mifflin County in 12U action.
The Red, White and Blue squad from Juniata county were led by strong pitching efforts by Jaxon Dowling and Logan Stoner.
Dowling started the contest for the Juniata squad, going three full innings allowing only two runs on four hits striking out four.
Stoner had his fastball working in his three full innings on the mound the fireballer struck out six.
He also had it going offensively, blasting a home run and a long single as well.
Teammate Heath Walton led Juniata at the plate going 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles two RBIs and three runs scored.
Teammate Isaac Geibel went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Maddox Leister went 2-for-4 posting a double and a single to go along with a four RBI morning.
Rounding out the hitting for Juniata were Jaxon Dowling, Brady Hartland and Brady Allen.
Mifflin County got hits multiple hits from Brooks Drukenmiller. Others posting hits were Andrew Toddes, Cooper Rankin, Isaac Sharpand Peyton Willow.
As the visitors, Juniata opened strong posting six early runs.
Dowling led off the inning with a double into center. He scored on an RBI double by Leister.
With one out and Leister at second, Stoner blasted a two-run home run, making it a 3-0 contest.
Walton blasted a double. Trevor Lopez was patient at the plate taking the walk.
Geibel came to the plate with two outs and hit an RBI single into left field. Allen brought home the sixth run to end the top of the first.
Mifflin County scored their first runs in the bottom of the inning.
Drukenmiller singled to right. Kris Henriquez was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second. Toddes loaded the bases reaching on a Juniata miscue.
Drukenmiller scored on a single by Rankin. Rounding out the MIfflin County scoring was an RBI fielders choice by Quincey Scheffel.
In the second, Stoner opened with a walk. But his stay on base was short as Walton hit the team’s second home run of the young contest, scoring both himself and Stoner.
From there Juniata was able to add to their lead while keeping the MIfflin County bats at bay en route to the win, Juniata takes the 1-0 lead after the first contest.
Game two will be played at 12:30.
