Jackson: One on One with Delaney Gray

Recently Tara Jackson had the opportunity to interview Delaney Gray.  Delaney is a student athlete at Bellefonte High School and will be a junior this year.

HS:  How long have you played the current sports you are in?

DG:  I have been playing both club volleyball and school volleyball since 7th grade. 

HS:  What is one piece of advice you would give to young athletes?

DG: One piece of advice I would give to young athletes is to never give up and always put your best foot forward. 

HS:   Who is someone you look up to?

DG: I look up to my mom.

HS:  What are your goals for the upcoming season?

DG: – My goals for this upcoming season is to play as a team and work hard.

HS: What do you enjoy doing outside of sports?

DG: – Outside of volleyball I enjoy hanging out with friends and family. 

HS:  What are your plans after high school?

DG: – After high school I plan to attend college.

HS:  Is there a coach or teammate who has gone above and beyond and pushed you when you wanted to give up?

DG: – In my years of playing school and club volleyball I’ve had many coaches that have been great and helped me along the way. But one stands out, Coach Kelly Aston. She taught me my basics, has taught me to believe in myself and taught me how to move on from mistakes 

HS: What is one of your weaknesses as an athlete? What is one of your strengths as an athlete?

DG: – One of my weaknesses as an athlete is that I always want to be perfect but I know everyone makes mistakes. One of my strengths as an athlete is that I always stay positive and try to lift others up because I know you need everyone to be apart of the team. 

HS:  Do you ever feel overwhelmed balancing academics and sports?  What things do you do to balance the two?

DG: I’ve always been a hard worker in and out of school. The more I have on my plate pushes me to do better. 

HS:  How do you prepare yourself for a game?

DG: – I prepare myself for a game by texting my mom. She always gives me encouraging thoughts and always knows what do say. 

HS: What strategies do you use to stay motivated during tough times?

DG: – One strategy that I use when things get tough is to talk it out. Either if it’s with my parents or with close friends they always seem to help me.
