HS: How long have you played the current sports you are in?
CC: I have played football for about 10 years now and basketball for about 5.
HS: What is one piece of advice you would give to young athletes?
CC: Some advice I would give young athletes is keep going and trust the process. Hard work does pay off. You have to be patient, stay consistent, and do the right things even when no one is watching.
HS: Who is someone you look up to?
CC: Someone I look up to is my mom. She has always been there for me and pushed through things. She is a very strong woman and doesn’t give up. That shows she is a very strong woman, and it pushes me to do the same.
HS: What are your goals for the upcoming season?
CC: My goals for the upcoming season are to try to help the team make it to playoffs and hopefully win a district championship.
HS: What do you enjoy doing outside of sports?
CC: Outside of sports I enjoy fishing, playing Xbox, and doing things with my friends.
HS: What are your plans after high school?
CC: After high school I hope to go to college and major in something in business, while also playing football in college.
HS: Is there a coach or teammate who has gone above and beyond and pushed you when you wanted to give up?
CC: A teammate that pushed me and helped me out is Kollin Cunningham. He has pushed me and gave me advice as I continue to learn the game and reassures me mistakes are part of it.
HS: What is one of your weaknesses as an athlete? What is one of your strengths as an athlete?
CC: Although I can’t really control this a weakness I would say is my height, but I won’t let that stop me on how I perform as an athlete. One strength I would say is that I’m coachable. I feel I can take what the coaches are giving me and do it or keep doing it until I get it correct.
HS: Do you ever feel overwhelmed balancing academics and sports? What things do you do to balance the two?
CC: Yes, sports and academics can be very overwhelming but to balance the two I put music on and set timers and goals for how much studying or work I do for each to make sure I can do the best I can.
HS: How do you prepare yourself for a game?
CC: Before a game I prepare myself by listening to music and trying to not overthink things and just play the game
HS: What strategies do you use to stay motivated during tough times?
CC: Some strategies I do to stay motivated are trying to think about the long-term effects of the training and studying I do, and how I can help my team win more. I try to keep doing stuff until it is done the correct way, so I have that muscle memory when it’s time to actually do that thing.
