Husky matmen pick up Senior night win over Cedar Cliff

LEWISTOWN – Saluting the seniors.

Thursday night the MIfflin County wrestling team held its annual senior night festivities in the match against Mid-Penn foe Cedar Cliff.

The Huskies made sure that they honored the seniors by not only giving them the 45-24 victory but in the process, the Huskies pinned the Colts six times en route to the victory.

“Number one, the focus was on the seniors. We challenged the kids to just give the seniors a win on Senior night,” said MIfflin County coach Kirby Martin. “The other part of that was this match we knew we kind of had similar teams and if each guy did his job and we picked up bonus points which we got. We got our pins tonight that would go a long way. Great effort tonight by our guys.”

It didn’t take long for the first pin to occur.

152: Parker Kearns led off the night by pinning Evan Ziegler in the 152-pound weight class just 1:22 into his match.

Kearns got off to a strong start posting three takedowns before placing Zeigler’s shoulders to the mat for pin.

At 160, Deakon Schaeffer almost picked up a pin late in his match but had to settle for a tech fall win over Erik Schriver, 21-3. Schaeffer was had Schriver with one shoulder down and could not get the other one down before the third period buzzer.

Freshman Reese Christine put the another pin on the scoreboard for the Huskies as he pinned Preston Dent at 1:38 in the 172-pound bout. Christine picked up the early takedown and never let Dent back up as he dominated the contest before pinning him, giving the Huskies an early 17-0 advantage.

Teammate Avery Aurand kept the pins-a-coming as he was able to put over Mike Jones at the 3:37 mark, upping the lead to 23 points.

Not to be left out at 215, MIfflin County’s Truitt Davis pinned Matt Eisenhower in another early first period pin at 1:02.

Cedar Cliff notched it’s first win of the night as Gunner Hiller pinned pinned Levi Marks at 1:58 at 285.

At 107, the Colts picked up an easy win for Kevin Trimmer as he won by forfeit.

In a very close match from beginning to end, 114-pounder for the Colts Gabe Lewis notched a hard fought decision Styers Oden at 7-4.

Going into the 121-pound weight class Keegan Zeigler won by forfeit, cutting the Huskies lead at 29-21.

However, MIfflin County would get back to its winning g ways at 127 when Cam Everly picked up a pin of his own. Everly pinned Kyle Zeigler at 1:24, extending the lead to a 35-21 advantage.

At 133, Blake Aumiller statistically clinched the contest for MIfflin County as he hammered out a 13-0 major decision over Zach Cutshall.

139-pounder Josh Weaver gave the Colts another win as he muscled out a decision over Lucas Sheetz. 12-8.

But the Huskies would end the contest how they started, with a pin. At 145, Jacob Cunningham pinned Liam Gannon at 1:40 closing the contest for his team and the seniors.

Mifflin County will take to the road this weekend as they travel to Indiana to compete in the Bo Woods Tournament.

127: Cam Everly (MC) pinned Kyle Zeigler (CC), 1:24.

139: Josh Weaver (CC) dec. over Lucas Sheetz (MC),12-8.

145: Jacob Cunningham (MC) pinned Liam Gannon (CC), 1:40.
