Huskies track team sweeps Harrisburg

Boys: Mifflin County 112, Harrisburg 38
Girls: Mifflin County 92, Harrisburg 50

LEWISTOWN – Despite tough weather and track conditions, the Mifflin County Huskies took care of business in both the boys and girls meets defeating the Harrisburg Cougars in a Mid-Penn Conference track and field match on Tuesday.

On the girls side, the Huskies were victorious with the final score of 92-50 over Harrisburg. Mifflin County placed first in 12 of the 18 events and had four events where the Huskies had taken the top three spots.

The key highlight for the meet was Kylee Cubbison who won in both the 800 meter run and 1600 meter run events. But it was the 1600 meter run where Cubbison had made history as she completed the event in first place with a time of 5:00.46 which is a new school record which was previously held by Cubbison herself which was at 5:06.

Lily Yoder won multiple events for the afternoon winning in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.46, and in the long jump event going 15 feet and nine and a quarter inches.

Tai Ematat also won multiple events as well taking first place in the high jump reaching four feet and four inches. Ematat placed first in the pole vault event as well going 6 feet.

For the boys, the Huskies defeated the Cougars by the final score of 112-38. Mifflin County won in 14 of the 18 total events for the match. The Huskies swept in seven of those events.

Josiah Sechler won in four different events starting in the javelin event throwing 163 feet and 10 inches. Sechler also won in the long jump going 21 feet and a quarter inch, the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.15 seconds.

Sechler was also a part of the 400 relay team that included Dillion Wert, Caden Kauffman and Jayden King that got a new personal best winning the event at 45.22 seconds.
King also won in the triple jump reaching 41 feet and seven inches while Kauffman placed first in the high jump reaching six feet.

Mifflin County boys are now (3-3) and the girls are (2-4) and will look to keep the winning ways going as the Huskies will host the Central Dauphin Rams on May 3.
