Huskies rebound quickly, defeats rival SC in morning affair

STATE COLLEGE – To be continued?

With the fierce rivalry the MIfflin County and State College baseball teams have had through the year’s it seemed the Saturday morning contest would add to the lore of the two.

Mifflin County would earn a series split, Saturday morning as the MIfflin County baseball team was able to scratch out a thrilling 1-0 victory against State College on the road.

The game which was for scheduled for a 10:00 start was delayed due to the rain from the previous night and morning.

But when it started the game was a defensive battle to the very end.

It might be a preview of a possible District 6 playoff showdown.

Evan Strohecker got the Huskies going in the fifth, plastering a 1-out single to left.

Lincoln Ruble joined Strohecker on the base paths as he reached on a Little Lion miscue.

On the play, Strohecker moved up to second, which set things up securely for Jayden Smith.

Strohecker put his team one base away of scoring the game’s first run as he stole third.

Smith did not disappoint as he grounded out to the second basemen, allowing Strohecker to score.

State College tried to tie the contest in the bottom of the inning l.

Rowan Walker led off things with a 1-out single to centerfield.

After picking up their second out, Jake Hall doubled, putting runners on second and third.

Mifflin County was able to end the threat there as they were able to get Sabastian Rhoades to fly out, ending the inning and preserving the lead.

That would be all the Huskies needed as they clamped down even harder on the defensive end.

Picking up the win on the afternoon was Logan Alexander. Alexander went the distance, allowing just four hits in the contest.

State College allowed three hits but the Little Lions Achilles heel on the night was sporting four errors in the contest.

Strohecker tallied two of the Huskies three hits while teammate Jayden Smith had the other.

State College got hits from Michael Powell, Jack Coleman, Hall and Walker.

Despite holding the Huskies to three hits Oskar Williams took the loss after relieving starter Finn Powers.

The Huskies will be back in action Monday at Mechanicsburg. State College gets back to battle Monday against Cumberland Valley.
