State College wins at Cumberland Valley in OT thriller.

In a great Thursday night field hockey game, State College came out on top. Olivia Miller notches the game winning goal off an Ella Tambroni pass from Hannah Garlin’s penalty corner insert. The State College victory was their first State College victory celebration at CV in years.

The first three quarters saw a lot of back and forth action with both teams trading opportunities. The action significantly picked up in the fourth. Cumberland Valley had several shots in a row on penalty corner, the Little Lions defensive unit knocked every shot away  including a defensive save by Madi Gaul on an aerial ball. She then passed the ball to the outside, and State College quickly got the ball up into CV’s circle and Joelle Bartlett appeared to score with 5:23 to go in the game. The circle official signaled a goal. The lead official asked for a conference. After discussion, they ruled no goal believing they saw a State High foot contact the ball before scoring.  The game remained tied.  

OT was equally thrilling with State High’s relentless pressure breaking through the Eagle defense and earning the first corner of OT. State College wasted no time, and executed the penalty corner perfectly at the 7:47 mark for their first victory on the Eagles home turf in over a decade- if ever.  Molly Schreiner earned her second shutout of the season with the help of her defenders Lanie Herlocher and Madi Gaul who both earned a defensive save in regulation.
