WINGATE – A very fast field hockey contest between State College and Mifflin County held at neutral Bald Eagle Alumni Stadium ended with a 2-1 State College victory Monday evening. The first two meetings resulted in a slender one-point victory for State College and a tie, and tonight’s game was the natural extension of that fierce rivalry. Hannah Garlin spot on offensive power scoring the two State College goals in the first period.

The first goal was scored when Garlin received a pass from Olivia Miller and then tipped it in behind the Mifflin County goalie on the right side. Garlin’s second goal occurred at 5:40 in the first, after a furious round of passing during a penalty corner when Maddie Shomo passed to Garlin who lifted the ball over the Mifflin County goalie. State College maintained the 2-0 lead until well into the fourth period when Mifflin County’s unbroken Hailie Sheetz shot behind the State College goalie to the middle for an unassisted goal

Next game, State College plays Central York at Memorial Field for a preliminary District III AAA playoff game, State College, WednesdayOctober 26, Varsity only (6:00 PM).
