MILROY – The Mifflin County 14-year old all -stars squared off against Altoona in game one of the teams double header on Saturday hoping for a bounce back win.
It wasn’t the start Drake Grohowski was hoping for when he took the mound only giving his team 1/2 a inning on 41 pitches but MIfflin County wouldn’t let that upend their confidence in earning a bounce back win.
Belltown product Kale Beaver would come in relief and pitch well earning the win in a solid outing for him.
When asked about the bounce back pitching performance from Beaver he said that you can pitch a lot better moving on toward the tournament even though one day is a bad day you can come back from that even though you did terrible The first couple games.
Chase Krepps had a solid day at the plate with three hits. All of his hits drove in runs for Mifflin County turning in a 3-for-4 day another player that continued to produce and come through was Karter Kanagy. During his final at bat he would rip a two-run single to extend the lead Landon Pecht would have one hit on the afternoon.
“We just have to stay on the same level and don’t get too low on ourselves,” Chase Krepps said “We don’t try to think you’re the best and stay at the level of service.”
Altoona was held hittless until the fifth inning in favor of good pitching by Mifflin County. Grant Walters would reach base on an infield single.
Mifflin County would hit the switch and turn the tables to an astounding 10-5 win over Altoona.
“We just have to play our game and just hope that we can continue to hit the baseball and make things happen,” MIfflin County coach Denny Yetter said. “We’re doing a lot of stuff at the bottom of the lineup and we’re going to continue to do that and push the top of the lineup. And just hope we get strikes and get some quality pitching.
Mifflin County brought in Jaxon Parkes to close out the game, tossing a couple innings to earn the save to beat Altoona to knock them out of contention.
