LEWISTOWN- The Second season opened Thursday for the Mifflin County All-Star baseball team as they battled Perry County in a best of three series at Frank Pupo Field at Lewistown’s Rec Park.
Mifflin County dominated the opening contest by an 11-1 victory.
On the mound, the Purple and White squad got a strong pitching performance from Caleb Peachey. Peachey had a strong game on the mound tossing a 2-hitter.
Carter Long and teammate Chase Yoder both had multiple hits for MC and he also scored three times. Teammate Koby Scheffel finished with 3RBIs to pace MIfflin County.
Mifflin County pounded out nine hits in the game while walking six.
Perry County scored first in the game.
Opposing pitcher and leadoff hitter Deacon Magill led the game off with a double. He then scored on a MC miscue.
Trailing 1-0 going into the second, the MIfflin County bats started to heat up with the end result being a 6-run inning.
Yoder led off with a single. He stole second and reached third on a wild pitch.
With one out, Micah Mathews was hit by a pitch.
Scheffel singled in Yoder, tying the game at one.
Jake Savitts loaded the bases with a single of his own.
Cole Laughlin would bringing in what would be the team’s winning run, scoring Mathews on a single.
Peachey posted the team’s third run as he posted an RBI single to right.
Calvin Napikoski bounced into an RBI fielder’s choice.
Long picked up his first RBI with a single to end the scoring at 6-1.
With the 4-run lead, Peachey had his location as he attacked the Perry County line up.
Mifflin County buffered its advantage, posting two more runs in the third to make it an 8-1 lead.
Offensively, Mifflin County ended the game with two more runs winning in walk off fashion, 11-1.
The win put the Purple and White squad one step closer to the District championship.
