COCOLAMUS – As the saying goes, it ain’t how you start its how you finish and late inning scoring and strong relief pitching from Owen Yorks carried East Juniata to victory over the Line Mountain Eagles in Tri-Valley League baseball action by the final score of 8-5 Wednesday afternoon.

The Tigers were up 1-0 until the top of the third inning where Line Mountain dropped three runs in the frame starting with Ethan Wendt grounding out to short that brought home Brock Hirt to even the game at one apiece. Brayden Boyer then singled to left to score Rhett Klinger to give the Eagles the lead. Hunter Michaels then hammered a double to left center that brought in Boyer to make it 3-1 Line Mountain.

Line Mountain added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning as Boyer blasted a double to left bringing in both Wirt and Travis Feese to extend it to a 5-1 lead.

But East Juniata refused to let the Eagles get away as then in the bottom half of the fourth, the Tigers closed in the Line Mountain lead. Aaron Kanagy knocked a single to right field that scored both Kobe Bonnell and Matt Hoover to make it 5-3. Tate Jamison then came to the plate launched one into the gap that brought home Dylan Wagner cutting the lead down to 5-4.

But then in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tigers took back the lead. However, at first, it appeared as though East Juniata wasnát going to score any runs as in Kanagy hit a fly ball to right field but the fielder dropped the ball which allowed Blaise Lauver to score and tie the game at five apiece.

The Tigers then pulled off another big play as again with two outs, Jamison laid down the bunt that slipped past the defenders and allowed Wagner to score.

Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Tigers tacked on two more runs where Owen Dressler scored on a passed ball and Bonnell hit a SAC fly to left that brought home Wagner.

Another major factor was Yorks who was the third pitcher used in the game for the Tigers. Yorks came in the fifth inning and kept the Line Mountain bats in check. The Eagles only had one opportinity to score some runs but failed to capitalize.

Yorks pitched the final three innings of the game and gave up only two hits and three strikeouts for the afternoon.

Evan Clouser got the start for East Juniata and went two and a third innings with three walks. Owen Dressler took over and pitched the next one and two-thirds innings and had two strikeouts.

Jamison led the Tigers at the plate batting 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Kanagy was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

East Juniata (1-0, 1-0) travels to Millersburg on Monday.
