East Juniata outlasts Juniata in tough rivalry battle

MIFFLINTOWN — Last time Juniata and East Juniata played, the Indians came out victorious in Cocolamus. Naturally, East Juniata was looking for some revenge and got it. Coming into Juniata and sealed the deal, 47-42, in a boys basketball game on Thursday.


The Tigers struggled for the majority of the first half getting the shots to fall. Meanwhile Juniata was hitting on all cylinders offensively and had at one point in the second quarter, a double digit lead.

But late in the period, East Juniata ended on a 6-0 run led by Jake Brackbill that cut the lead down to single digits. Juniata went into the break with a 21-17 lead.


Things began to change in the third quarter as the Tigers picked up the intensity on defense and refused to allow Juniata many chances to get shot opportunities.

East Juniata outscored the Indians, 19-8, in the third quarter to take a 36-29 lead.


But the Indians were not going away quietly as then in the fourth quarter. They started to fight their way back and cut the East Juniata lead down to 45-42 within the final 25 seconds left in the game.

But East Juniata dug down deep and stood firm and managed to ice the game late.

After a scoreless first period, Brackbill battled back and scored a total of 16 points.

Dylan Wagner also made his presence felt throughout the game on both offense and defense. Much like Brackbill, Wagner also scored 16 points.

Wyatt Stoner led the way for Juniata with 13 points.

East Juniata hosts Muncy on Saturday.
