East Juniata out scores St.Joseph’s in extra inning affair

The East Juniata Tigers snatched the lead late in the game in an 11-9 victory over Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy WolfPack on Tuesday.  The game was tied at six with the Tigers batting in the top of the eighth when Clark Ritzman doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs.

East Juniata built a six-run lead in the eighth inning and then held off the WolfPack’s charge.  Saint Joseph’s scored three runs in the failed comeback on a walk by Rocco Gigante and an error.

In the second inning, East Juniata got their offense started.  Aaron Kanagy drove in one when Kanagy singled.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Tigers tied things up at six when Kelton Bonnell singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

After East Juniata scored two runs in the top of the fifth, Saint Joseph’s answered with two of their own.  The  WolfPack then answered when Hayes Miller doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Owen Dressler earned the victory on the mound for East Juniata. Dressler lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and three runs while striking out one.  Wyatt Weges threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Nick Warner led things off on the pitcher’s mound for the WolfPack. The pitcher surrendered six runs on 12 hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking zero.  Miller, Guss, and Spencer Gigante each contributed in relief for Saint Joseph’s.

Kolten Martin started the game for the Tigers. The pitcher lasted five innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out five and walking one

East Juniata tallied 16 hits in the game.  Martin, Tate Jamison, Ritzman, and Bonnell each managed multiple hits for East Juniata Varsity Tigers.  Martin led East Juniata with four hits in five at bats.

Warner went 2-for-5 at the plate to lead the WolfPack in hits.
