East Juniata girls even record with home victory

COCOLAMUS — A second half surge led by the dynamic duo of Sara Brackbill and Cadee Becker carried East Juniata to victory over Forbes Road 33-28 in girls basketball action Thursday night.

The Tigers struggled offensively throughout the first half only scoring seven points while Forbes Road had 17 going into the second half.

In fact, East Juniata scored more points in third quarter than it did for the first half combined as the Tigers dropped nine points in the frame closing the gap to single digits with Cardinals leading 24-16 at the end of the third period.

But then in the fourth quarter, the Tigers really came up big offensively scoring 17 points in the frame.

Brackbill made her presence felt during the final period of the night attacking the basket. Brackbill drew contact and found herself on the line and gave the Tigers their first lead of the game.

Brackbill scored 10 of the 17 points scored in the frame and had 16 points for the game.

While Brackbill controlled the paint, Becker was lighting it up from deep hammering in four shots from beyond the arc and collected herself 15 points for the night.

Defense was a major factor in the game for East Juniata especially in the second half as the Tigers held the Cardinals to just 11 points for the whole second half after giving up 17 points in the first half.

East Juniata (1-1) travels to Mifflinburg on Saturday.
