LEWISTOWN- In the second game of District Cal Ripken action, Juniata hurlers Jaxon Dowling and Logan Stoner keep the MIfflin County bats quiet tossing a no-hit shut out to send the 12U squad to the number one seed and 12U District Champion.
After taking the opening game 11-2, the scrappy group from Juniata jumped out early and ended with a 3-0 victory in a rain shortened contest.
In the first, Juniata got on the board early playing two early runs.
Dowling got the game started hustling out an infield single.
Dowling moved up to second on a wild pitch and then he proceeded to steal third.
With one out, Jerry Fisher blasted an RBI double, scoring Dowling from third.
Stoner came up and was hit by a pitch, putting runners on the corners with still only one out.
Heath Walton walked to load the bases. Fisher scored on a wild pitch, making it 2-0 going into the second.
Dowling and company sent Mifflin County down 1-2-3,giving his offense another chance to add to their lead.
In the second, Isaac Geibel singled to start the inning. He moved up to third on two wild pitches.
He then scored on a single to left, scoring Geibel.
That would be all that Juniata would need as they once again sent down MIfflin County in the third 1-2-3.
Mifflin County shut down Juniata in the third keeping them scoreless in the third.
But with the conditions deteriorating with the persistent rain turning the field to mud, Juniata needed to shut down the MIfflin County offense one more time before ending the game.
Dowling got the first two outs of the game.
However, Mifflin County threatened, putting runners on all three bases.
So Juniata went to the bullpen and brought out Stoner. Stoner did the rest setting down the third out to clinch the win, no-hi bid and the championship.
Juniata will be the top seed going into the next round while Mifflin County will be second.
