Don’t forget the Lady Rams; Penns Valley quietly stands at top of ML

SPRING MILLS – Under the radar!

This season, the Penns Valley girls have been quite the impressive best kept secrets in local sports action.

Sporting a new coach for the 2022 season, the Lady Rams took little time in making the transition from coaches.

Taking the helm of head coach this season was Joe Matson.

Matson and company took to the ground running, literally, as they reeled off seven straight victories to start the season.

Penns Valley’s defense started its dominating play, refusing to allow a goal in its first three games.

While it’s defense we’re holding things down, the Lady Rams offense outscored their opponents 9-0 in wins over Central Mountain (twice) and Huntingdon.

Tyrone was the first team to score off the very tough back-third and goalie Avery Dinges. But, they posted just one as the Rams topped the Golden Eagles 2-1.

Offensively, the Rams went back to posting another shut out, this time it would be a 7-goal evening against Moshannon Valley.

Up next was Bellefonte, though the Lady Rams allowed a goal, their offense churned out four for the 4-1 victory.

Up until Monday’s loss against PO, the Penns Valley was able to hold its opponent to just a goal or less.

In their battle against Bald Eagle Area they posted a 2-1 nail biter.

Besides Dinges clutch work in the goal, the defensive back line, led by captains Bekah Gillespie and Paige Dobson help seal off the goal area, coming up strong numerous times throughout the young season.

Upfront, the speed of the team is in high gear throughout the game as it seems there is no let up at all no matter what the situation was.

Leading the offensive charge were Ceci Falls, Scotty Dinges, Nikki Denger, Abby Stitzer, Hannah Clark.

These upperclassman have shown great leadership as the team, even when challenged, never wavers even in defeat.

The team has been at the top of the charts in the Mountain League from day 1.

Despite losing a very post season type contest versus a very hungry and feisty Philipsburg-Osceola team, the group still held their heads up high and knows they will be back to try for another win in a few days.

This is definitely a team to watch, especially in the post season.
