LEWISTOWN – They defended their turf.
In the second game of a Tuesday soccer double header, the MIfflin County girls soccer team opened their first game at Donald M. Chapman lll Stadium in grand fashion, dominating visiting James Buchanan 6-0 in front of a nice crowd of fans.
The night belonged the Lady Husky Abigail Anderson. Anderson notched a hat trick as she scored half the team’s goals on the night.
Defensively, the Mifflin County defense just didn’t only looked sharp but they refused to allow the Rockets any shots on goal while its offense led things with 30 shots on goal.
“That’s a great way to start out. That was a strong defensive effort,” said Mifflin County coach Barrett Knepp. “I expect to have a strong defense all year round.”
Mifflin County’s offense also proved to be a strong defense as the Huskies pounded the ball in their opponents side. The Lady Huskies finished with 17 corner opportunities.
A shining spot for James Buchanan was the play of goalie JB Madilyn Sloss as she stopped 24 shots. Mifflin County’s goalie Liberty Cook was untested the whole evening.
After a quick barrage of shots by Mifflin County to get the game started, the “Purple and Black Attack” found paydirt when Abigail Anderson picked up a pass from Mackenzie Peachey at 8:43.
Minutes later, it was Mackenzie Peachey picking up the goal at 9:44.
With a two goal lead, the Huskies continued to swarm around the ball, keeping back the Rockets before the night.
In the second, the dominating play continued as Ashlynn Lyles broke wide open through the middle of the James Buchanan and upped the lead to 3-0 with 58:03 left.
Anderson hit her second of the night at 66:43.
Less than a minute later, Ashlyn Lyles picked up a Mackenzie Peachey pass scoring nothing but net hitting the back of net for the goal at 67:10.
Anderson put the book ends on the contest as she picked up the hat trick and the scoring at 77:36.
