Today was the first of a two-day District 6 Championship Meet. The meet started with girls pole vault, where Addie Ross took fourth place with a vault of 9’0″.
The first event on the track was the 1600-meter relay. Carter Smith made taking first place look easy with a time of 4:08.08. This performance is a new meet and facility record. With this win, Carter punched his ticket to the PIAA State Track and Field Championships which will be held on May 23-24.
Our team had a lot of PRs and season best performances today. The coaches and I were very pleased with the positive attitude the athletes had through the season even though they were not able to train on a track. We are very thankful that Penns Valley and Juniata allowed us to use their tracks over the past week as the all-weather surface is put down at our facility. The athletes handled all of this well, continuing to give the coaches their full effort to improve their technique and dedication to their training.
Along with Carter taking first in the 1600, Ava Kratzer placed 8th in the event with a big PR of 5:25.42. Hart Oden also ran his best time of 4:43.35 and Libby Cook did the same with a time of 5:29.83.
Michael McNitt qualified to run in the finals of the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles tomorrow. Early in the meet freshmen Abi Riden and Mady Baumgardner ran their best 100-m hurdle times of 18.09 and 19.07. Abi then earned a spot in the 300 hurdle finals with a PR time of 52.22. Teammates Reagan Sheetz and Mady also ran their personal best times of 52.52 and 58.48, respectively.
All six 100-meter runners ran a PR or season best in the preliminaries: Gideon Garland (11.81), Wyatt Yoder (11.85), Nevin Farley (12.11), Annie Hartzler (13.99), Brynn Rowe (14.07) and Alleigh Caruso (14.62). Later, Trevan Diven ran a 53.01 to earn a spot in the finals of the 400. In the next heat, Camryn Treaster finished the race with his best time of 54.82.
In Triple Jump, Maddy Clinard placed 8th with a PR jump of 30’11.75” and Ethan Plank earned 6th with a season best jump of 40’ 10.25”. Freshman Sophia Heider closed out her first season of track with her best jump of 27′ 5.75″.
