WINGATE – Sweet revenge! Last season the Juniata boys soccer team was knocked out of the District 6 Class AA playoffs by Penn Cambria.
Fast forward a year later as the two met Thursday in a winner take all title tilt held at Bald Eagle Area High School’s Alumni Stadium.
In this night the Indians were bound and determined not to let history repeat itself as they blanked the Panthers 3-0 to capture the PIAA District 6 “AA” Championship.
Juniata got on the board early in the contest to take a 1-0 lead.
At 33:18 Juniata scored on a hard fought goal by Anthony Maradiaga.
Midway through the first half, the Indians upped its lead to give themselves some breathing room posting a two goal lead.
Juniata scored its second by Ricky Guante with the assist by Anthony Maradiaga at 18:07.
Going into the second half, the Indians were just 40 minutes from marking off another preseason goal they set in August.
The Indians padded their lead at 3-0 at 22:32 when Juniata scored its second goal by Maradiaga.
Juniata pounded the Penn Cambria goal plastering 23 shots on goal while the Panthers only mustered four.
In Corner Kicks the Indians also held the advantage by a 5-2 margin.
Juniata goalie Wyatt Dessin finished with four saves while Penn Cambria finished with 25.
