The Mifflin County Cross Country Lady Huskies had a fantastic start to their season at the Big Valley Invitational held on their home course in Reedsville. Amilia Coffey not only led the team with a career-best PR, but she also took home a medal with a 10th-place finish in the AAA category. Amilia knocked 2.5 minutes off last year’s time at BVI, which is an incredible way to start the season. This kind of start is precisely what she needed to give her the confidence in the ability she has.

Likewise, Ava Kratzer placed second for the team and also started her season strong, posting a career PR and besting her BVI time from last year by more than 2 minutes. This kind of start is what makes Ava’s goals for her season attainable. I couldn’t be prouder of how hard she has been working and the valuable leadership she has brought to the team as a co-captain alongside Amilia.
Taking the third and fourth place spots for the team were Liberty Cook and Abby Anderson, both of whom were running their first-ever high school cross-country races. Liberty and Abby are balancing cross-country and soccer, which demonstrates their willingness to work hard to excel in both sports. They bring valuable depth to our team and helped the team place 7th out of 24 teams. It has been quite some time since we were able to finish in that kind of position.
The team will enjoy a holiday weekend and return to action on Tuesday, September 2, against Cumberland Valley on their home field. Their races come quickly in September and will quickly put their stamina to the test as they refine and train for the latter part of the season. Today was a great day to build upon.
