ALTOONA – The road to a state championship starts here!
Friday and Saturday Altoona was once again the place to be for wrestling as the District 6 Class AA and AAA spent the day starting their wrestling season patches with hopes of be the last one standing as reaching the spot of being called PIAA state champion.
The action was hot and heavy this weekend as numerous Centre County Laurel Highlands wrestlers punched their ticket to Regional Competition.
Bellefonte finished with Andrew Gall finishes 2nd at District 6 AAA Championships & move onto the Western Regional.
The Red Raiders’ Noah Weaver led things off for Bellefonte posting a 2nd advancing him to the Western Regional.
Jack McHail also finished in the 2nd place position adding to the his name to the Western Regional weekend.
Teammate Jackson Long also finished in 2nd Place and will join Weaver as he heads to the Western Regional as well.
In a third place finish, Wyatt Long posted a 9-0 shut out to finish 3rd as well as a berth the Western Regional.
Rounding out the other top performers. Logan Rarrick just missed advancing as he placed 4th at Altoona . Luke Hockenberry placed 5th while Jacob Horn finished at 6th place.
Bald Eagle Area
It was a great day for the Bald Eagle Area matmen as six Eagles advances to Class AA Western Regional action.
Tanner Guenot was crowned champ at the 121-pound weight class.
His teammate Caleb Close also finished at the top of the podium at 189 pounds.
Finishing in second was Caden Judice as he advances in the 133-pound weight class.
Dawson Lomison advanced as well as he posted a 3rd place finish at 139.
Alex Surovec posted a i5th place finish of 152 pounds.
Rounding out the advancing BEA wrestlers was Liam Purcell who finished in 5th place at 114 pounds.
Philipsburg-Osceola
The Mounties finished their day posting four wrestlers finished on the podium.
Caleb Hummel paced Philipsburg-Osceola wrestlers with a 3rd place nod.
Three Mounties finished in fourth place. Ace Foster, Averi Gable and Connor Guenot all finished in the fourth spot.
Those four will compete at the PIAA Southwest Regional Championships in two weeks.
Teammate Colton Chapman finished the day 7th.
As a group, the Mounties finished 6th out of 26 teams in the team standings.
Rounding out the locals was Penns Valley.
The Rams are taking seven to the Southwest Regionals.
Leading the was for Penns Valley was Erik Carlile as he took the top spot and captured the championship.
Finishing in second were Max Dinges, Conner Myers, and Brayden Lisowski .
Evan Lisowski finished third on the very busy weekend.
Finishing in 6th for PV was Tripp Watson and Sawyer Fetterolf.
