Chase Benfer drove in five runs on three hits to lead Burnham past Strodes Mills 26-2 on Sunday. Benfer singled in the first scoring three, singled in the first scoring two, walked in the second scoring one, and singled in the second scoring one.

Burnham got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Benfer singled, scoring two runs, Noah Wray drew a walk, scoring one run, Blake Royer drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Dylan Stahl induced Noah Wolfkiel to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Benfer singled, scoring three runs, and an error scored two runs.

Burnham scored 11 runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning. Wolfkiel doubled, scoring two runs, Benfer drew a walk, scoring one run, Wray was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Nate Lindley singled, scoring one run, Benfer scored after tagging up, Wolfkiel was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Liam Shaffer singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Benfer singled, scoring one run.

Wray earned the win for Burnham. The hurler allowed two hits and one run over three innings, striking out four and walking three. Stahl took the loss for Strodes Mills. The hurler went two-thirds of an inning, allowing 10 runs (five earned) on one hit, striking out one and walking six. Cohen Leister threw one inning of no-run ball for Burnham in relief. The reliever surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking none.

Burnham amassed 11 hits in the game. Shaffer and Hunter Benfer each collected multiple hits for Burnham. Burnham had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 13 walks for the game. Wray and Leister led the team with three bases on balls each. Burnham turned one double play in the game.

Ezra Beamer set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Strodes Mills with two hits in three at bats. Karson Goss led the team with one run batted in.

Burnham play at home on Wednesday against Belleville Babe Ruth in their next game.
