BG’s Cubbison wins 3K in indoor track college debut

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The he Bowling Green Falcons opened 2023 with a first-place team finish at home, winning the Falcon Early Bird Open with 111 points. This was just one point ahead of Eastern Michigan and eight points ahead of Central Michigan. BGSU saw two first-place finishes from Brianna Richard, as well as first-place finishes from Kailee Perry and Kylee Cubbison. The Falcons also had runner-up finishes from Mateya Haintz, Jemeila Hunter, Olivia Collett, and the 4×400 relay team. Several athletes attained PRs, including all five that competed in the weight throw.

Falcon Facts
– Brianna Richard won the triple jump with a mark of 40-7.50, which is the eighth-best in program history. She also won the long jump, reaching a mark of 18-5.25.
– Kailee Perry won the mile with a time of 4:58.23, the fourth-fastest time of her career. This is the fifth time she has finished the mile in less than five minutes. She added a third-place finish in the 800, completing the race in 2:20.51
– Kylee Cubbison won the 3K in her collegiate debut, finishing in 10:06.27. She was followed by Olivia Collett, who was the runner-up at 10:14.28, which is a PR.
– Mateya Haintz had a PR in the weight throw, placing second with a mark of 59-2.00
– The 4×400 relay team of Ashley Kisor, DaMya Barker, Alexsia Davis, Bianca Staples placed second with a time of 3:59.84. This is the first time the quartet has raced together and it marks BGSU’s fastest time of the season.
– Jemeila Hunter ran a season-best 7.62 in the 60 finals, placing fourth.
– Bianca Staples matched her PR and placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5.7.00
– BGSU placed four runners in the top eight of the 200. All four were making their season debut, with the runners being Jemeila Hunter, Darian Braddix, Alexsia Davis, and Alexis Parchman.
– Izzy Best placed fifth in the mile, finishing in 5:08.47 in her collegiate debut.
– DaMya Barker (3rd, 9.02) and Destiny Fernandes (8th, 9.45) scored points for the Orange and Brown in the 60 hurdles
– Raegan Burkey ran the mile for the first time in her career, finishing in 5:18.00
– Competing in the 400, Ashley Kisor ran a PR of 1:00.96
– Katherine Mendenhall jumped a season-high 5-5.00 in the high jump, taking sixth place.
– Reagan Emberton also PR’d in the weight throw, taking seventh place with a toss of 53-2.00
– Also recording PRs in the weight throw were Grace Bradtmueller (50-5.00), Kami Baker (46-7.00), and Lane Anderson (45-1.00
